What is a good cable internet speed to have skype? I am going to sound stupid because I dont know anything about internet speeds, but I think I have 6 megs or mz (or whatever its called) cable. Is that a good speed for skyping?

Cable will be faster, so I want to introduce a "choke" so that the user community (my family) will not see a speed increase. Optimally, I would want to limit bandwidth by IP address, but if you can find a solution that treats all IP's the same, that's okay. A cheap hardware solution is best, but I can hang a PC with some kind of proxy server, if a software solution is best (I'd even like a free software solution better than a $50+ hardware solution). Can I run the high speed internet cable in the same conduit/pipe as the cable TV line? We have a high speed cable line running from the telephone pole underground to our house. We want to get cable TV, but the cable TV line stops at the telephone pole, so we're going to have to run the cable TV line underground ourselves. We know there is enough room in the existing underground conduit to house both the high speed line and the cable TV line. Can we run both together in the same conduit, or will there be interference and problems as a result?

Help with my cable high speed internet connection? I live in Tucson and have Cox cable for my high speed internet service. Everything worked great until the past few weeks my connection sporadically started going online and then offline, then online again. My cable goes from the wall to the modem, then to a router with one line to a xbox 360 and the other to my computer. my cable operator says my internet speed is 32kbps, but when i download, download speed is at most 5 kbps. Why what is difference between cable speed and download speed. If my operator says that my cable internet is 32kbps does that mean i will be able to download at 32kbps? I have High Speed Cable internet at home and so far I've been using my laptop (no desktop at home) to connect to it by plugging an Ethernet cable from the cable modem straight to my laptop.
