Internet Cable Speed

What is the best cable modem to use with comcast cable internet service to maximize my internet speed?

I am just about subscribing to Comcast and would like to know if it would be better to by a cable modem or sign in for one of their modems. So I am looking for the best modem option. What do you guys think?

1. My brother in law has Comcast and I helped him out with a network problem a few weeks ago. The cable modem they gave him felt really cheap and of poor quality. I don't know if Comcast uses the same cable modems for everyone everywhere though. Then go look some info on the one that they provide and see if it is good or not and buy a better one like the surfboard if theirs is bad.
