Internet Cable Speed

how do I get the same internet speed from my computer to my laptop?

I just upgraded to 15 mbps and I have no problem of getting those speeds on the main computer downstairs. But when I did a internet speed test on speak easy on my laptop im only getting 2-3 mbps. Is there something I can do to fix that? Like having to go into run cmd or something the router im using is a secured linksys wireless N router

  1. try plugging the laptop into the ethernet cable instead of the pc and see what the speed is then. if its fast then you have a problem with the router
  2. Laptops that work wireless don't always get the best signal. This is because the wireless laptop is effected by the walls and surrounding ares and even your furniture in your house. I bet if you were to plug in the laptop and do a speed test you would get about the 15mb mark. Plus as well when you are using a wireless card most wireless cards only give you 55kbs but the wired connection standard rate is I think 120kbs and broadband internet comes through the wire at about 420kbs I would just like to say though that as it has been a long time since I have looked at speeds and things these figures may well be outdated now so don't take them as fact, but rather as a guide. The whole point is that when using wireless laptops PDAs or Games consoles or other Wireless Devices it is best to try and place your router in about the centre of your house on the middle floor approximately 3 - 6 meters from all of the devices in every room. I know this is quite often not possible so just place it in the best position using that guide and try and remove other obstacles and your laptop connection speed should increase.
  3. Change the settings on your router so that it shares your connection 50/50 with your fixed connection and your wireless connection. http://www.free-laptops-phones.co.uk
  4. Clean windows registry can speed up the computer. Over time, you install new programs, uninstalled unimportant programs, update software's, install new devices, download files from the web, etcetera, hence embarking all records in the registry system. This is normal, but it is not wise to leave it untouched. Once in a while, you have to check and remove files that are no longer in use to maintain the speed of your PC.
