What should my up and down speeds be, roughly, for cable modem?
I have Comcast, and I use the Speakeasy online speed test. It gives you your connection speed in kbps. Roughly what speeds should I be seeing? I'm particularly interested in online gaming and Xbox Live. Thanks, any info is appreciated.

- what numbers are you getting?
- Whichever number it gives you, divide it by 8. Since bytes are 8 bits. 768kbit/sec = 96KB/s. for example. good luck!
- It depends on what they "promised" or "advertised" to you. You'll need to compare it to that. For instance if they told you 5 MB down and 1 MB up, you should roughly see about 80 to 90 percent of that. Cable is especially prone to congestion because basically you are on HUB in your neighborhood with everyone else who subscribed. So your bandwidth could decrease significantly if everyone in your neighborhood with the same service got on at the same time. DSL and Fiber services do not run into this issue, because they essentially plug you into a switch back where ever they terminate your connection to the Internet.
