Internet Cable Speed

How do I increase my Internet speed?

According to my Internet provider, I pay for 32 mbit/s but when I do a speed test it only reaches 11-12 mbit/s. I have tried a wireless connection and a wired connection with an ethernet cable but the speed is still the same. What can I do to reach at least 20 mbit/s, maybe more?

  1. pay even more money lol
  2. just because you are paying for the 32 mBits/s excess speed don't mean that you can reach it, the maxim speed you could reach would be at about 12 pm.
  3. i think its a problem with your isp you can talk to them or switch to another one
  4. yea internet speed is a issue with the type of isp u got weather dial up , dsl, cable, and now fios but also make sure u clean up ur pc by giving it a good tune up and delete all old stuff and refresh everything
  5. you can not get the max speed that your isp promised you. pay for a CIR if you want to get the min speed that you would like to get...good luck...jexter@eastern.com.ph
  6. thats if you live right next to the exchange. but if you are a few km away that seems correct to me and remember to use at least a cat5e Ethernet cable.
  7. In surfing the Internet , I think you don't need more speed , But for downloading you can use Download accelerators , Like Mass Downloader , IDM ,... they may speed you up to your 32 Mbit/s . It's worth giving a shot . I can give you links for downloading them , if you want .
  8. If you use Windows XP Professional then it is possible to squeeze an extra 20% out of your internet connection. By default Windows XP Pro holds back 20% of your Internet speed for various services like windows update and spyware checks. If you want to tap into this locked speed then make the following changes: 1. Go to Start-> Run-> and type gpedit.msc 2. Expand the Administrative Templates branch 3. Expand the Network tab 4. Highlight QoS Packet Scheduler 5. Click on Limit Reservable Bandwidth and check the enabled box 6. Then Change the Bandwidth limit % to 0 % Once you have done this click apply and restart your PC. After rebooting you should see a noticeable improvement in your net speed
  9. To fully test how fast your internet service is you will have to un plug every electronic devise that uses the internet in your house. Then connect you computer using a Ethernet cable and then go to speedtest.net to find out how fast your service is. The reason that it is slow when you have all your electronics connected to your internet is because they each use up a certain amount of bandwidth and clog up your LAN and WAN.
  10. You probably have a bunch of stuff on your computer, so it'll slow it down. Try cleaning it up a bit. :)
